Northern Hills Tryouts & Information

We are excited to continue the BHJ Northern Hills Branches for the 2026 season. Tryouts for the Spearfish, Sturgis, Belle Fourche and Newell teams will be held on January 4th, 2026.

Tryout Information

Tryouts for the applicable cities will be held in Spearfish, SD at Spearfish High School on January 3rd and 4th, 2026. If your age category falls in the 18 & Under (high school senior), please register for the Rapid City Branch tryouts on November 29th and 30th. Please look over the age chart below before signing up for tryouts. *Times may change depending on the numbers of players that register for tryouts.* Registration is ONLINE ONLY and must be completed by January 2nd at 6:00 PM. Please register for the HIGHEST level of travel your family can commit to.

TRYOUT TIMES:

12U, 13U, 14U: January 4th, 2026 at 8:30-11:00 AM

15U, 16U, 17U: January 4th, 2026 at 11:00-1:30 PM

Travel Levels for teams vary per city. Spearfish will be the host of the main regional teams for the Northern Hills. Local teams will be available in Sturgis, Spearfish, Belle Fourche and Newell.

LOCAL- Tournaments located throughout the Black Hills and Gillette, WY. The season begins with practice twice per week beginning in February. The season concludes at the end of April at the BHSU tournament. Specific position practices and team practices are offered. About single day 5 tournaments will be offered for this team level. The cost for season will be $450.

REGIONAL- Tournaments will be located throughout the region within about a six hour radius from Spearfish. Some city examples may include:  Kearney, NE, Casper, WY, Sheridan, WY,  and several cities around South Dakota. Practice begins end of February for team placement. The regional teams will be attending 6-7 tournaments.  This includes a minimum of two multi-day tournaments. The cost for this season will be $750.
